Really heavy duty action and a good tight story. Best action Sci Fi I have read. This first book in a series of three is complete in itself. It leaves you wanting to read the next book in the sequel but is a full action story itself. I preordered the next book..

“Lucky Universe: Lucky’s Marines Book One,” by first time author Mr. Joshua James, is a solid, fast paced and entertaining space saga, of a far future “Frontier Marine,” and his comrades quest to combat an alien invasion of human space, using the humans who discovered their alien tech as avatars or “meat puppets.”
The story moves briskly, with a decent narrative, and doesn’t get bogged down in the weeds of minutiae. “Lance Corporal Luck,” and the few remaining members of his squad, are the only survivors of a planetary insertion on a heretofore tech poor enemy human “Union.” The insertion by the “Empire” goes seriously sideways, as the intel and mission and are totally “FUBAR.”
There are minor blemishes in writing and certain credulity leaps within the storyline, but not glaring enough to take away from a romp of a read. The editing is above par for a new writer. The ending is somewhat muddled, not from being a cliffhanger, but in that it reads a little rushed.
“Lucky Universe,” is recommended and this reader looks forward to Book 2. The book was fully read via Kindle Unlimited.

That was the driving question I had while reading this book. The pace of the book was such that I was always wondering what the heck would happen next and how it would be overcome. Lucky, as another reviewer has already stated, has a past that he is not remembering. One thing for certain is that because of his past it's a coin toss as to whether Lucky's life lives up to his name or it doesn't. At the end of the day Lucky Universe is a fun read that will have you turning the pages to see what happens next. I look forward to reading the rest of what Mr. James has to offer in the Lucky series.

Wow! Make sure you are locked and losded and your gear is tightly secured, because you will hit the ground running with this group of space marines at page one. If you like military sci fi with lots of action, this will fit the bill. Like the way the characters interact. The AI technology is really amazing. There is a back story with a mystery that will draw you along as well. The only con I notied was it could use a littie editing. Highly recommend it. I received a free copy for an honest review.

I bought the 3 pack. Quit halfway through the second. Just too repetitive, same scene, different location, over and over. His internal AI was the only interesting character. The whole thing was just too unbelievable.

When does being lucky not so lucky? Lucky Savage is a character you can sink your teeth into. This book is full of such characters. If you like a fast paced action adventure then this book is for you. I loved it.

Lucky is a character we can all identify with - pushed into leadership kicking and screeming. A very fast paced story with a few surprises. A welcome bit of space wit and whimsy in an all to serious world.

A really good story, and well-written. The editing, however, sucks. I found three typos in one page, and it was a half page end-of-chapter. Reads as though it had been dictated instead of written. I'll keep reading, but jeez....

A great read for fans of irreverent Marines, the underdogs, and Sci-Fi. Twists within twists - reads like a good who done it. Cool technology. Dreams to build a dream on. Hatred as motivation. AI - the good, the bad, the ugly. Read it!

Excellent character study of Lucky with an unknown alternate ‘ego” directing the plot line and leaves you wondering, wondering what’s next and is there a vast alien under plot? The supporting characters maintain a touch of reality that frames Lucky’s various dilemmas.
